Enhancing Accessibility and Inclusion in Schools: Second Stakeholder Meeting by UN Habitat

On 24 February 2023, UN Habitat organised the second stakeholder meeting on enhancing accessibility and inclusion in schools at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Our Founder and Executive Director Nidhi Goyal participated at the event as an expert.

To work towards universal accessibility in education for children with disabilities, UN-Habitat with support from the Department of Social Welfare, GNCTD, and IIT Kharagpur envisaged a city-level Capacity Building Programme titled “Enhancing Accessibility and Inclusion in Schools”, an endeavour to sensitise stakeholders that are part of the school ecosystem on barrier-free and accessible schools for all.

The focus of this Stakeholder Meeting was to review training modules included in the live training sessions conducted under UN Habitat’s pilot programme “Mainstreaming Leaving No One Behind (LNOB) in National Urban Policies and Programmes in South Asia” project, which aimed to strengthen national governments and local urban institutions to center LNOB (inclusion, accessibility, and safety) in national policies, and facilitate evidence-based localization of national policies and SDGs 11 & 6 in urban areas.

The Stakeholder Meeting also included providing feedback on refining and improving the course content for making a meaningful impact in the capacities of urban experts and professionals to achieve disability inclusion.
