Tweet chat with Ungender

On the 13th of April 2020, founder and executive director Nidhi Goyal was invited to a tweet chat by Ungender alongside renowned disability activists such as Nipun Malhotra, Preeti Singh, Shams Aalam and others.

Ungender is a legal advisory firm that works to build gender diversity & sexual harassment compliance framework for companies. The tweet chat was Ungender’s initiative to bring together disability activists and experts on how to address the challenges people with disabilities face in workplaces. The questions focused on several domains such as access, healthcare and sexual harassment and misconduct policies. All panellists brought up some extremely pertinent points around the limited nature of discussions around accessibility, the inaccessible nature of important guidelines by the state and challenges with physical distancing when it comes to assistance. Nidhi Goyal highlighted some important points around the issues that specifically disabled women tend to face. She spoke of the invisibility around domestic violence data and information for women with disabilities despite increased vulnerability. She highlighted how the absence of this conversation persists in both the disabled and non-disabled communities. Nidhi also brought up the concerns of disabled people who might be living alone during the COVID-19 lockdown without assistance or their caregivers as well as the challenges faced by daily wage workers living with disabilities which is another community that does not get heed in conversations on disability.
