On 9th December 2019, The Red Door – an organisation that focuses on mental health and peer support through various platforms, held their “Katharsis: Stories Heal” event, at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event started with individual sessions by all speakers present, and was followed by a panel discussion amongst them. Our founder and executive director Nidhi Goyal was one of the speakers, and focused on the intersections of mental health, activism, and disability, by sharing her own journey. The other speakers included poet and performer Abhishek Anicca – who discussed disability, masculinity and chronic illnesses, and artist/ deaf empowerment trainer Hardeep Singh – who discussed importance of language and identity and intersections of art as expression. The panel that followed was moderated by Professor Rachana Johri from Ambedkar University, whose work involves themes of gender, disability, and psychology.
