On 15 September 2026, our Founder and Executive Director Nidhi Goyal facilitated a three-hour online training session in Hindi for 33 grassroots activists and social workers from India and Nepal, organised by Jagori Rural Charitable Trust.
The session, “Gender & Multiple Disabilities – Visible and Invisible,” explored visible and invisible disabilities, models of disability, ideas of “normal”, hierarchies within the disability community, and the infantilisation of persons with disabilities.
Participants examined the intersections of gender and disability, including unequal expectations around education, marriage, and gender roles, particularly for women with disabilities. The social perceptions around women with disabilities and stigma on their specific disabilities were discussed in detail using media and representation.
The training opened up important conversations on the often-invisible ways gender and disability intersect, and the need to keep questioning, unlearning and creating more inclusive ways of seeing and being.
