Algorithmic Value and Global Fiscal Coordination

As artificial intelligence continues to transform economies, it is also changing how wealth is created and who benefits from it. Recognising that the economic gains from AI are likely to be concentrated among a handful of countries and corporations, Apoorv Kulkarni, Expert – Artificial Intelligence Systems, Rising Flame published a research paper for T20 South Africa 2025, under the G20 process. 

After reviewing global taxation frameworks, economic evidence and policy literature, this policy brief proposes guiding principles for a more equitable distribution of the economic value created by artificial intelligence. It proposes a set of guiding principles for a fair, global approach to AI taxation. The recommendations include clarifying the purpose of AI taxation, adopting a time-bound and adaptive implementation approach, designing taxation around corporations rather than machines, ensuring global coordination and equity, and establishing governance and monitoring mechanisms to promote a fairer distribution of AI-driven economic value.
