On August 24, 2023, our Founder and Executive Director, Nidhi Goyal, conducted a virtual training on the rights of persons with disabilities for the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) Online Short Term Internship Programme. The session brought together 80 postgraduate students representing a wide range of disciplines, including law, social sciences, political science, economics, engineering, management, and human rights.
During the session, Nidhi explored the shift from a charity-based approach to disability to one grounded in equality, autonomy, and human rights. She discussed the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and non-discrimination in ensuring equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. Through real-world examples and an engaging discussion, participants were encouraged to critically examine the structural and societal barriers that disabled people continue to face, while considering their own role in fostering a more inclusive and rights-based society.
