On August 29, 2022, our Founder and Executive Director, Nidhi Goyal, conducted a virtual session on the rights of persons with disabilities as part of the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) Online Short Term Internship Programme. The session was attended by 80 postgraduate students from diverse academic backgrounds, including law, social sciences, political science, economics, engineering, management, and human rights.
During the session, Nidhi located disability rights within the broader human rights framework. She explored both national and international human rights frameworks that uphold the rights of persons with disabilities and examined their role in advancing inclusion and protecting fundamental rights. Drawing on real-world examples, Nidhi also discussed the societal and structural barriers that continue to exclude persons with disabilities from full and equal participation across different spheres of life. The interactive discussion encouraged participants to critically reflect on disability through a rights-based lens.
