Our Founder and Executive Director, Nidhi Goyal, conducted an in-person training for the Winter Internship Programme 2025 at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Delhi, on the rights of persons with disabilities on December 30, 2025. The session was attended by 80 post-graduate students from law and humanities backgrounds.
Beginning with what disability really means, Nidhi unpacked the models of disability and traced the journey of disability rights. She examined how disability rights came to be situated within the human rights framework and highlighted the key features of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). Taking a life-cycle approach, she discussed the issues and challenges faced by persons with disabilities from birth to ageing, including education, employment, social stigma, access to health, sexual and reproductive health, as well as safety and abuse. The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment and was very well received by the participants.
