Sugamyata Ka Sankalp

Sugamyata Ka Sankalp

On 7th October 2026, our Founder and Executive Director, Nidhi Goyal, participated in Sugamyata Ka Sankalp, a consultation on accessibility convened by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in partnership with The Association of People with Disability (APD). Held at the India International Centre in New Delhi, the consultation brought together 30 participants, with representation from more than 5 central ministries and multiple state governments.

In her intervention, Nidhi emphasised the importance of looking beyond non-negotiable accessibility guidelines to adopt a more intersectional approach to understanding accessibility and the experiences of persons with disabilities. She highlighted the need for accurate, intersectional data to inform accessibility efforts, capturing the diverse experiences of people with disabilities across many contexts.

She also stressed the importance of involving and training frontline workers, including Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic (AFHC) counsellors, to help gather more meaningful data and ensure that the experiences of persons with disabilities inform policies and interventions.
