On June 17, 2026, our Founder and Executive Director, Nidhi Goyal, facilitated an in-person training titled “Rethinking Disability and Deconstructing Ableism in Our Movements” at the FON Asia Partners Meet organised by CREA at the Pullman Bangkok Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. The session was attended by 40 feminist activists and partners from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The session introduced participants to disability as a social justice issue and explored how dominant understandings of disability are shaped by the medical and charity models. Through discussions, thought exercises, and group reflections, participants examined the social model of disability, accessibility, intersectionality, and the ways ableism manifests within feminist and social justice spaces. Drawing on lived experiences of persons with disabilities, Nidhi encouraged participants to reflect on exclusionary practices and assumptions within their own organisations and movements. The workshop concluded with a discussion on moving from awareness to justice by centering accessibility, inclusion, and leadership of persons with disabilities within feminist movements.
