On the 22nd and the 23rd of February 2020, the Women with Disabilities India Network and National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) organised a national DPO consultation on the UNCRPD concluding Recommendations and planning their implementation and advocacy in India in Kolkata. The consultation brought together DPO’s from across the country to bring the concluding remarks of the CRPD back to India and to understand what would be the action points for the government and policy intervention.
Our founder and executive director, Nidhi Goyal, spoke on the pertinent issues of Women with disabilities and concluding remarks by the CRPD committees around gender and disability along with other members of women with disabilities India Network. She also took forward the discussions on legal capacity with senior activists Ratnaboli Ray and Jeeja Gosh.
other discussions at the consultation covered important areas such as Non-Discrimination and Social Protection, Education and Employment, Access to Justice, liberty and security, Data, Conflict and Disasters, Mental Health and Institutionalisation.
