Light for Annual Impact Week – Light for the World

Our Founder and Executive Director Nidhi Goyal spoke at Light for the World’s annual Programme and Impact Week on 9th May, 2025. This online session brought together 88 employees from across the international organisation. The participants were united in their commitment to learning, sharing, and deepening their collective understanding of key global issues, and Nidhi was invited to present about disability, gender, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender based violence.

She spoke about the importance of inclusive SRHR and she emphasised that SRHR is not just a need, it is a right. That it is crucial that we shift the narrative from one focused solely on safety, to one that embraces autonomy, dignity, and agency of women with disabilities. When women with disabilities are informed about their SRHR, they gain control over their bodies, and that is true empowerment.

She addressed the issue of sexual and gender-based violence, and the unique challenges and barriers faced by women and girls with disabilities. Tangible solutions were also explored, such as improving access to information, enhancing recognition of violence, and centering both prevention and response in our work.
