Invisible No More: Recognizing the Rights and Realities of Women with Disabilities

Our Founder and Executive Director Nidhi Goyal was invited to speak at a very crucial webinar: Invisible No More: Recognizing the Rights and Realities of Women with Disabilities. The webinar was organised by the Delhi Legal Rights Consortium (DLRC), an initiative under the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI). Held on 13th May 2025, the webinar had over 160 attendees. She led an interactive and important conversation around the lived experiences of women with disabilities.

Nidhi detailed how the intersections of gender and disability come together, and how disabled women are not seen as ‘woman enough’, therefore rendering them invisible. She stressed the importance of placing people, but especially women with disabilities in leadership roles at work to champion change. She also explained that women with disabilities are conditioned to be grateful for a lack of opportunities both in personal and professional settings. In the legal space, although there have been reforms, they fall short when it comes to implementations and laws still have stigmatising language. She concluded that gender and disability come together to create complex barriers for women with disabilities socially, culturally, politically and legally.
