Gender and disability training | NCPEDP-Javed Abidi Fellowship

On October 20th, 2021, the Rising Flame team conducted a 3 hour interactive training for the NCPEDP-Javed Abidi Fellowship in New Delhi, on the topic “Gender and disability”. The training was a part of the 5 day long induction workshop for the fellows, and was attended by the 28 participants from 20 states, who were selected to pursue disability rights advocacy in their area of preference for three years.

Our founder and executive director Nidhi Goyal led the training, and discussed the ways in which women with disabilities are at the intersection of multiple marginalisations. The ways in which they experience this marginalisation, and the specific forms of violence they have to deal with every day, was brought to light with the help of many different narratives and cases. Programmes Associate Chayanika Iyer also conducted a part of the training, where they spoke of experiences of other gender marginalised groups – including non binary and trans persons with disabilities.
