On the 12th of June, 2020, the National Commission for Women organised an online consultation on women with disabilities. Panel members included Dr Bindhulakshmi P., professor at the Advanced Centre for Women's Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Dr. Bhargavi Davar from Bapu Trust, Ratnaboli Ray, founder of Anjali MHR and founder and executive director of Rising Flame, Nidhi Goyal, among others. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Himangshu Das, director, National Institute for Empowerment Of Persons with Multiple Disabilities. The discussion centered on the prejudices, stigma, discrimination, subjugation other social, cultural and legal dilemmas faced by women with disabilities as well as accessibility and inclusivity in both urban and rural spaces in India. Nidhi Goyal highlighted the marginalisations faced by women with disabilities in society focussing on the social, cultural and legal aspects of their lives. She also addressed the concerns around sexual and reproductive health and rights as well as menstrual health management of women with disabilities along with other panelists and weighed in on the importance of mainstreaming these issues.
