On February 20, 2025, our Founder and Executive Director, Nidhi Goyal, delivered a session on the intersection of gender and disability at Miranda House, University of Delhi. Organised by Lakshita–The Enabling Unit, in collaboration with Bhumika Trust, the event brought together 60 participants for an engaging discussion on disability rights, gender justice, and inclusive societies.
Nidhi joined Professor Shubhangi Vaidya, Associate Professor, School of Inter-disciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies, IGNOU for the session, which was moderated by Adv. Jayant Singh Raghav, President of Bhumika Trust. In her intervention, Nidhi unpacked the different models of disability and examined how disability intersects with gender to create multiple and compounded forms of marginalisation, particularly for women with disabilities. Drawing on lived experiences and a rights-based perspective, she highlighted the importance of recognising disability as an issue of equality, dignity, and inclusion.
The session sparked conversations on barriers and solutions for women with disabilities both in the personal and professional arena. From relationships to leadership, a breadth of topics were covered. Finally the participants left with a deeper perspective on experiences at the intersection of gender and disability including building inclusive communities and educational spaces.
